Caboose Work Day
Joshua McBlair (CHS senior and Eagle Scout candidate) slowed just long enough for this photo while he and his group of volunteers spent several hours Saturday July 20th working on the caboose and grounds near the depot museum. They have more work for later before fresh paint for the caboose which has faded to near purple since the last red paint from a work project a few years back.
VCO Stickball Stick Making Class
I borrowed the photo (above) from the Victory Cherokee Organization Facebook page showing the stick bending process during the Saturday sunny class. Instructor Victor Wildcat is assisting Faith Samply with her stickball stick. The photos below, I took Sunday after the class was forced indoors by the rain while they continued filing and sanding their sticks before adding the webbing. -- Ted Wright
Color Guard Car Wash
The CHS band's Color Guard group held a car wash Saturday July 20th to help raise funds for their 2013 uniforms. The rest of the band will have a car wash and garage sale August 10th. Summer band begins July 29th and the annual preview show is set for Sept. 3rd.
Aline Phillips explained a few rule differences for men and women playing the traditional Cherokee stickball games. She stated that the women could use their hand (instead of the sticks) and could shove the men out of the way. I hope I get to see a game when they complete their sticks? --Ted
