Icy First Day Of Winter
"Minor" Tree And Power Line Damage
... At Least Compared To 2007 Ice Storm
Some Power Outages
Just based on my own back yard about 9am Saturday ... I'd say we have only about half the ice we had in the 2007 ice storm. I'm estimating about a quarter inch on the city power line to my house. Will check downtown next for a few photos. Forecast calls for continuing freezing rain until this evening. -- Ted 9:20am 12/21/2013

Based on my view and photos of downtown, city park and my own back yard, I'd estimate we had about 1/4 inch of ice in Collinsville on this the first official day of winter. I did find one limb in my yard with closer to a half inch (see the yard stick photo) but it was hanging downward and likely collecting re-melted ice from higher on the limb. The roads and sidewalks appeared to be in pretty good shape as the temperatures there were just above freezing during the daylight hours. -- Ted Wright --Saturday Dec. 21, 2013 (7:10pm)
