**** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ****

Collinsville Downtown, Inc. presented its first Back Alley BBQ event on Saturday, August 24, 2013. This event, held in conjunction with Founder’s Day and the Tri-County Fair, was a fundraiser for our downtown revitalization program. It was a great success!

Backyard barbeque masters and competitive cooking teams from the area all participated to compete for money and the bragging rights to be the best. We even widened the competition by adding a category for the Best Side Dish to go with barbeque. There were some good ones!

The smoke started rising in the City Hall Plaza at 1:00 a.m. The smokers and grillers were busy perfecting their art. By noon, everyone was salivating. The tasting kits were to go on sale at 1 p.m. but the line started forming before then. Those who purchased the $5.00 tasting kits said it was all good. Many told us that the event was so much fun. Are you going to do it next year? And Yes! We will!

Our congratulations go to all the winners. First Place winner was Mike Thompson and his Salt Mine Smokers. He took home a trophy and $250.00 in cash. Second Place winner was Kin Griffin and the RAM Country team. Third Place went to Henry Scott and his team, the Baconaters.

There was a tie for the Taster’s Choice award: Salt Mine Smokers and Ben Noble. Best Side Dish was also won by Mike Thompson and his Salt Mine Smokers.

We would also like to thank the Collinsville Feed Store for sponsoring this event. Our thanks also go to all the judges. Glad I didn’t have their job.

So….. Smokers and grillers start now making plans to enter next year. If you didn’t win this year, start planning your revenge!
