9am to Noon

From 9 to 10:30 a.m., Cowan Watts will provide information for K-12 students on classes to take in 8th through 12th grade to prepare for college and scholarships, social media best practices for any age student and building your resume for success in college such as choosing a career path. Social media best practices are applicable to all ages. Younger students (5th through 12th and college) and their families are encouraged to attend.

From 10:30 to Noon, Cowan Watts will provide tips for finding scholarships and tools for improving your applications as well as managing your applications to ensure success.

To guarantee a copy of the handouts, arrive by 9 a.m. Doors open at
8:30 a.m. Light refreshments provided. Cherokee Nation resources invited to set-up booths including Cherokee Nation Foundation.

For a copy of handouts and on-going scholarship opportunities via an email listserv for the Oklahoma Professional Chapter of American Indian Science and Engineering Society (OPC AISES), email Cara Cowan Watts at cara@caracowan.com.

Public is welcome. Topics are focused on Cherokee Nation citizens, but most information applies to all students and especially minority students.

Learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics
(STEM) careers throughout the presentation for increased employment opportunities and to earn more money over your lifetime.

The event is free and open to the public. Students and their families as young as 5th grade are encouraged to attend as your Senior year is often too late to make key decisions on college prep curriculum in High School, testing strategies for the ACT and SAT tests, recommendation letter network and resume building. If you are in college or an adult hoping to return to college or even attend graduate school, much of the presentation will still apply to your preparation for finding and applying for scholarships.

NOTE: To obtain the documents, email me at cara@caracowan.com and request the scholarship handouts. For on-going scholarships, jobs, fellowships, summer camps, summer internships and more to advance students and professionals along their career path, email Cara at cara@caracowan.com and ask to join the OPC AISES email listserv.

Mini-Editorial (Debt Reduction Choices)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/25/deficit-reduction-council-fiscal-cliff_n_2185585.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular
I've managed to keep my edtorial / political comments to a minimum recently, but the link above (to a story about rich CEOs) caught my attention yesterday.

I don't know if any or all of it is true ... but if even a small portion of the theme is true (that those with the most income are trying to balance the nation's debt problems by cutting benefits to those with the least income while looking for even more benefits to themselves) then my disgust level continues to rise.

Without repeating the details of an earlier (Aug. 2011) editorial ... my belief is that the only reasonable solution is to treat every citizen the same rather than more special rules for rich, poor, middle class, etc. at the expense of another. -- Ted Wright Nov. 26, 2012.
