FFA Sporting Clays
The Collinsville FFA participated in the Northeast District Sporting Clays competition during fall break at Kellyville. Our team consisted of Josh Moore, Conner Cross, and Dalton Self. There were fifty- four teams total and our team placed forty-ninth overall. The top four teams are eligible for the state qualifiers. Three participants can make a team (however there is a maximum of four members per team), or they can compete individually. The competition consisted of numerous shooting patterns. The competition is divided into junior and senior divisions; 8th, 9th and 10th graders are in the junior division, and 11th and 12th graders are in the senior division. It is sponsored by the department of Wildlife and Conservation and the STEP Program (Shotgun Training and Education Program). The department of Wildlife and Conservation provides all of the supplies: such as the shotgun that’s used (a 12 gauge Remington 870 or a 20 gauge Remington 870), orange dome targets, protective glasses, and non-toxic steel shot.

FFA Attends OSU Block & Bridle
Morgan West & Mallorie Humble
On Saturday, a few people from our chapter went to the OSU Block and Bridle youth livestock clinic. Oklahoma State University's chapter of Block & Bridle strives to promote animal agriculture both on and off campus, while forming lifelong friendships and developing the professional skills of its members. Each year Block and Bridle hosts a showmanship clinic; Morgan West and I attended this clinic where we learned about how to show goats and sheep. However, that’s not the only thing that they teach you to show there- you can learn how to show swine, and cattle too. We learned more about the body parts of our animals, what to feed them, how to hold them when showing them, and what you need to do to prepare for a show. I would recommend this clinic for anyone who’s interested in showing because if you’re a beginner like me or an advanced showman you can still learn something at this clinic (and if you’re an OSU fan you can go to the clinic and still go to the game afterwards).
