Jr. High Football Update -- Spring 2012
(& Summer Pride Sign-Up Forms)

The 2011-2012 school year is just about to come to an end. It has been a fantastic year with so many memories to cherish. But before we end the spring, we have some unfinished business to attend to.

We are having a parent meeting May 9th, at 5:30pm in the high school cafeteria. This meeting is for all 7th, 8th, and 9th grade players and parents for next fall. We have a lot of information about the upcoming summer pride program and other items to discuss about next fall. This is a very important meeting, so please make every effort to attend.

We will be doing spring football drills during the month of May. The drills will be for this year’s 7th and 8th grade. These drills will be non-contact drills. Athletes will need football shoes, t-shirt and shorts. If your son has outgrown their football shoes, tennis shoes will be ok. These drills will be done during the athletic hour during school. There will be NO after school practice.

There are many summer individual camps you son can attend. Please feel free to ask for recommendations about these camps. Camps are expensive and as a whole offer very little individual instruction.

Our Summer Pride program will begin on July 2nd and run through August 2nd. This summer our 8th and 9th grade athletes will workout 4 days a week and our 7th grade players 3 days a week. Practice begins August 7th.

Important Dates:
May 9th (parent meeting, 5:30)
May 14th (physicals, 6:00, $15.00 due at the door, must have for August practice)
May 17th (summer pride payment due)
July 2nd (summer pride begins)
July 16th-20th (youth camp)
August 7th (practice begins)
August 16th (school starts)

Bill Clark Hosting Pecan Industry Group
Ted, I don't know if you consider this newsworthy but my dad Bill Clark has been asked to host a group of pecan industry people at their farm this Wednesday. Dad has been very active in promoting & expanding the pecan industry in Oklahoma & has been featured in TV & print media & has served as the president of the Oklahoma Pecan Association. Could it be pecans might replace our once mighty dairy fame? He seems to be the "go to" man in the business.

Last Known Original Dawes Roll Enrollee
(Last) Tuesday marks a sad milestone for the Cherokee Nation, as we have lost our last original Dawes Roll enrollee, Lula M. Hickey Hall. Our elders are revered and will always have a special place within the Cherokee Nation.

We will observe a moment of silence at the Cherokee Nation at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and I ask that the flags at the complex and our offices across the 14 counties be lowered to half-staff. I also ask that as a nation, we remember Ms. Hall's family in our prayers as funeral arrangements
are still pending.

CHS Band 2nd American Classic Competition In Dallas April 28th
-- Photo submitted by Connie Collis -- (Previous Coverage)
Hey Cadets!!! We just wanted to congratulate you on this past weekend. We were proud of your behavior, character, and musicianship. The Honor Band got the 3rd highest score of the day, and the HS Band got the 2nd highest score of the day!!!!

We hope you enjoyed Six Flags, playing in the awesome Majestic Theater, and Medieval Times. You hopefully made some new friends, and great memories. What a great band family we have.

Students, make sure to thank the boosters when you see them. They are invaluable to what we do as directors. Without their help, we would not be where we are today.

Baseball Summer Camp
What: This camp is designed to focus on the fundamentals of defensive and offensive play.
Infield/outfield play, hitting/bunting, base-running, and pitching will be strongly emphasized during this 4-day camp. Our goal is for your son to leave with a better understanding of the fundamentals required to be a successful baseball player. Indoor facilities are also available in case of poor weather. Those involved in the Varsity division camp will be involved in a more in depth training with the coaching staff.

Who: Ages 5 – 13

When: May 28 – 31 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
