We are an active part of the communities we serve because they are the places we call home. The members we serve live, work and play in the lush rolling hills of northeastern Oklahoma.

Headquartered in Collinsville, Oklahoma, VVEC is a distribution electric cooperative. We provide electric service to residential, commercial and industrial consumers through more than 32,000 meters and more than 4,500 miles of electric line in portions of Nowata, Osage, Rogers, Tulsa and Washington counties.

Among the 26 electric cooperatives operating in Oklahoma, VVEC is the third largest based on the number of meters served by the co-op. Ninety-two employees cover the Cooperative’s more than 3,200-square mile service territory daily maintaining the electric system and providing consumer-oriented service.

AGENDA

1. Call to Order.

2. Roll Call: Pam Webb, Ted Wright, Fawn Ozug, Cheryl Hunt, Trent Rogers. -- Fawn Ozug (who has apparently resigned) and Trent Rogers were absent ... (with Pam Webb, Cheryl Hunt and Ted Wright present)

3. Discussion and possible action to consider Charlie’s Park as a location for a community garden. -- Tabled for additional information (like enclosure and water needs). The discussion was in response to the new health coalition group considering a location for a community garden with VCO and other sites also being considered.

4. Discussion and possible action to replace covering under swing set by the splash pad. -- Tabled for further consideration of cost effective replacement (one early estimate was in $24K range for a surface like the adjacent play area with spongy subsurface ... or possibly mats like at Wilson Elementary, for example), but the general consensus was that the material needs to be replaced (in agreement with city staff recommendation). The current black rubber mulch is constantly migrating out of the swing area (requiring frequent recollection by park staff) and occasionally even blocks drains at the splash pad

5. Discussion and possible action regarding safety barrier at west entrance near splash pad. -- Having reconsidered twice, the board voted to stick with the original no-fence (no barrier) open design recommendation. As a side issue, the board will consider possible solutions to address a concern with the high traffic mix of kids and unloading vehicles during the annual 4th of July event in that same area.

6. Discussion and possible action on potential tennis net repairs. -- Approved two hopefully simple fixes: 1) an eye-bolt and center strap to hold each net firm in wind. 2) correct the height of east net.
And tabled other discussed concerns with net pole locations and potential fence improvements.

7. Discussion and possible action on reporting to the City Commission. -- After discussion, the park board members agreed to take turns (as necessary) to be present at commission meetings to report on park board recommendations. The existing park board ordinance calls for quarterly reports to the commission.

8. Discussion and possible action on potential budget involvement by the Park Board. -- The park board recommends a joint work session with the city commission to consider possible revisions to the outdated ordinances which currently calls out a more active role in park financial matters than this relatively new board feels fits the current financial operations of the city manager / commission configuration. The park board recommends more of an advisory role on park matters.

9. New Business. -- A request to see if the splash pad water can be turned on in time for a planned May 14th field trip to the park by Wilson Elementary first graders.

10. Adjournment.
