GUEST PITCHES SWOSU PAST BRONCHOS
Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Central Oklahoma will resume
series Saturday with a baseball doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
WEATHERFORD, Okla.
– Southwestern Oklahoma State University got a rock-solid pitching
effort from starter Jeremy Guest to come away with a 6-0 victory over
Central Oklahoma Friday in the first of what will be three baseball
games between the two rivals.
Guest, a junior
from Collinsville, kept the Bronchos off balance throughout the day
changing speeds and keeping his fastball nibbling along the corners.
He worked seven and two-thirds innings and allowed just three hits,
striking out five and walking four batters before giving way to reliever
David Francis. The win was Guest’s first of the year, and the first
by a SWOSU starter this season.
The Bulldogs improved
to 8-4 overall and 6-4 in the Lone Star Conference’s North Division.
The Bronchos fell to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the league. The teams will
play a doubleheader Saturday in Weatherford beginning at 12 noon.
SWOSU took a 1-0
lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Christian Wise who finished
the game going two-for-five with two RBIS. SWOSU added a pair of unearned
runs in the fifth to build a 3-0 cushion.
SWOSU finished the
game with 12 hits off the Bronchos. One half of that total was by the
duo of Andre Yates and Kevin Cantrell who each had three hits apiece
for the Bulldogs.
