I'm not sure exactly when the high winds ripped off portions of the CHS roof but the weather camera on the roof was clearly being moved around in the periodic views captured every 15 minutes (this one at 3am). Loud nearby lightning woke me about 2:30am but I was unaware of the problems at the high school for several more hours. Lance West said he got a call about 4am.
The Weather Camera link will only show the most recent 24 hours so by Thursday you will not see the storm action. -- Ted
By about 11am Wednesday (when I arrived above) the crew from ESPO Fire & Water Restoration was well into the task of cleaning up the High School to prepare for the first day of classes the next day. Above there are breaking up the largest section of roof insulation (that landed in the parking lot) for removal into a roll off dumpster that can be seen arriving below in the weather camera view. My guess is that this piece of roofing material came from above the art room seen in the early am views at left.-- Ted
Superintendent Terry Due was being interviewed by TV Channel 6 (Emory Bryan) about 11am this morning with the damaged gymnasium ceiling in the background. The Channel 6 web site estimates wind of 70-80 miles per hour moved through the Tulsa area.
With the roof damaged and the heavy overnight rain the CHS art room was soaked pretty good and will likely required repair before it is ready for students.
Ceiling tiles from a large section of the gym dropped after being water damaged and water was on the floor also following wind damage to the roof.
School Will Begin As Scheduled Aug. 11th
