Spelling Bee
|
Hello!! Here's a
bit more info from Wilson Elementary that we'd LOVE to publish if possible!
Thanks - Lee Ann Due (4/20/2011)
Wilson Elementary held its annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, April 14th. We had a lot of incredibly bright contestants compete in our competition. They all did an excellent job at spelling, showing good sportsmanship, and using the character trait of effort in their spelling attempts. Wilson staff is so proud of all of our students and their hard efforts. The 1st and 2nd grades had separate spelling bees, and through many rounds of spelling trials and tribulations, three winners were determined for each grade. |
1st Grade Spelling
Bee Winners: (l-r) 3rd place winner - Maya Roberts; 2nd place winner - Sam Boyer; 1st place winner - Mason McKnight |
2nd Grade Spelling
Bee Winners: (l-r) 3rd place winner - Benjamin Caputo; 2nd place winner - Liberty Glover; 1st place winner - Lily Mitchell |

Wright: Australian Masters Degree
|
Emily Wright (CHS 2003 & Univ. of Miami 2007) received her diploma for a Masters Degree in Marine Biology from James Cook University in Townsville, Australia, this April 2011. Emily's Master of Science degree focusing in Microbiology was from the School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at JCU. Emily's research and thesis was titled "Bacteriophanges and bacteriocins: agents for biocontrol of the fish pathogen Streptococcus iniae" and was submitted in March of 2010. She had all of her degree requirements and approvals in place for a December 2010 commencement but could not attend, so waited for the May 2011 ceremony as she has been employed at the university as a microbiology technician for the past year. |
Dad's version
of the thesis topic is: a search for a naturally occuring cure (phage)
for a common fish agriculture bacteria (streptococcus iniae) instead of
antibiotic solutions used now that the disease could build up a resistance
to. Wikipedia helps with this explanation of bacteriophage
"as any one of a number of viruses that infect bacteria. Bacteriophages
are among the most common biological entities on earth. The term is commonly
used in its shortened form, phage." I received a treasured hardcopy book of Emily's thesis for Christmas but have not had time to read it completely yet. -- Ted Wright 4/23/2011 |

Dear Ted, My name is Brianna McKinney I am 16 years old and attend Collinsville high school where im a sophomore. I go to countless rodeos every year all around Oklahoma including High School Rodeos where I compete in barrels, Local rodeos, and Jackpots. My dream is to make it to the NFR (National Finals Rodeo) and run with the big girls. But in order to do that I need sponsorships to help me continue to make it there. I am open to any offers no matter how big or small, national sponsors or local sponsors. I am willing to place your name on my rodeo shirts and truck & trailer. I am also looking to upgrade my 1992 F350 and my 1980's stock trailer which my current barrel horse barely fits into. If there is any way at all you could help me out please let me know. Any questions please call me (918)289-5689 Thank you so much Brianna (4/22/2011) |
