City Park Improvements Continue
These May 11th photos show the state of the new state park ramps (above) and a retaining wall (below) on the hillside north of the new basketball court adjacent to the skate park area. In the days since these photos the city has closed the park (as a construction zone ... see details below) as a few individuals have chosen to attempt using the equipment which is not ready for public use.
Park "Closed" -- TO ALL CITIZENS (From the City of Collinsville 5/13/2010):
We are all getting very anxious about playing on the new equipment in the park. It's not even complete yet and it looks great! And believe me; no one is more anxious than we at the city are! However, the park is not open to the public yet. The contractors are working diligently to make it play-ready, but they can't do their job effectively or efficiently with cars, people and skateboarders in the way. It is not safe for the public yet, it is a construction zone with many pieces of large equipment all over the place. Therefore, the park is closed from this date forward until such time as the construction is complete and is made safe for the public.
The only people allowed in the park will be softball teams who must stay on the east end at the softball field.
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE PARK AND TRY TO PLAY ON ANY OF THE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT, SKATE PARK, BASKETBALL COURT, EQUIPMENT, DIRT PILES, ETC. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WE DON'T WANT ANYONE GETTING HURT.
We ask that everyone please help us in this effort. The contractor is on a timeline and is only slowed down by unwarranted interruptions. The less interruptions, the quicker the work will get done and the quicker the park will be opened for all our enjoyment.
VIOLATERS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW
Cherokee "One Stop Assistance Center"
An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday May 14, 2010 at the new Cherokee Nation Assistance Center at 1323 W. Broadway. Kim Webber will be at the center 3 days a week to handle a variety of services for Cherokee citizens from Collinsville and surrounding communities. Kim can be contacted at 918-316-7697 or
kim-webber@cherokee.org. Kim is near the center of the photo at the "sharp" end of the sissors (above).
District 8 Cherokee Councilmen Brad Cobb and Buel Anglen spoke briefly at the open house as did Shay Smith representing the Cherokee Nation Commerce organization. The Collinsville Chamber of Commerce joined the quests at the open house at 14th and Broadaway Friday. The office had formerly been open as a Cherokee Housing office at that same location.
Middle School Walk-a-Thon Rained Out
(For Connie Plumlee)
These two tumbling middle school students (Courtney Tourient and Mariah Hawkins) were among the performers Friday May 14th at the Middle School . A planned walk-a-thon for their teacher Connie Plumlee was rained out.
Mi'Shell Garrett with an intrepretative dance was one of the student performers in the gym May 14th.
This is one of the many posters on the wall of the gym for Mrs. Plumlee who has been on medical leave for an extended time following a fire that occurred during a medical procedure.
Pre-Event info: We are having a walk-a-thon in honor of Connie Plumlee on May 14th at 12:00, noon. We are starting a parade in front of the middle school and walking in the park. The money raised will go to the Burn Camp in honor of Connie. -- Kelly Hamlin (5/13/2010)
