539 Area Code Overlay Will Requre
Ten Digit Dialing Next Year News Release from U.S. Congressman John Sullivan Aug. 6, 2010 |
Friends,
I wanted to share with you some important information from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission regarding number exhaust for areas in our region served by the current 918 area code. Recently, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission approved an overlay plan which will add an additional area code (539) to service residents who live in the current (918) region. Dont worry all current residents, businesses, schools and local governments will able to keep their existing numbers, and there will no change to local call boundaries, or to 9-1-1 or 2-1-1 services. However, starting in March of 2011, you will be required to dial a 10 digit area code for all local calls. Time to start re-programming the current numbers in your cell phones! The first phase of the overlay plan is scheduled to begin on August 7, 2010. For more information about scheduling of the plan, or to review some frequently asked questions about why its necessary and how it will affect you, please click here. After reviewing the document, if you still have questions or concerns, you can contact the Corporation commission directly at the follow phone numbers: Main Commission number: 405-521-2211 Tulsa area OCC Consumer Services Division: 918-581-2869 Statewide OCC Commission Services Division: 1-800-522-8154
