Ted Note: I have no control over Google ad content below:

Forty Years ago, people all over the earth watched on television as man landed and walked on the moon for the first time. My father (John Wright) took the photo at left of his TV in Collinsville. I was just two months removed from my CHS graduation in May 1969 and watched from my brother's (Don Wasson) home in Norman where I was in my first summer semester at OU. -- Ted Wright

The other adjoining big news in Collinsville was the first ever kindergarten classes here.

Owasso Pearls?
I ran across this interesting 1911 Collinsville news items about pearls from an Owasso Lake. I've not seen anything else about pearls from this area. Maybe Brad Francis will have heard some family stories about this discovery? -- Ted
Roving Reptiles To Library August 1st
The Collinsville Library is planning a really big day on August 1, from 11:00-1:00 at the Collinsville Library, 1223 W. Main. We want to close the Summer Reading Program with a SIZZLE, a RATTLE and maybe even a HISS.

The Roving Reptiles of Oklahoma will have a walk through type of exhibit in the Library meeting room for all the students who have completed the Children's or Teen's Summer Reading Program. All are invited but we will have special coupons for those who have completed the program. I would like to start building up the event now and carry on through July.

We are dusting off our pith helmets, preparing the meeting room for a great demonstration by the Roving Reptiles of Oklahoma, putting together a snake egg counting contest and much more.

Our goal is to bring our customers in for one last chance to complete the summer reading requirements...we all know registering for the SRP is a great step toward maintaining reading skills through the summer but .... actually completing the requirements is how our students maintain those skills.

We hope to have a big group here to enjoy the reptile presentation and celebrate the end of the SRP for children and teens.

If you want to help that day be here by 10:30, don your helmet, and be ready to laugh our loud!

Sincerely, Susan @ CV
