Alzheimer's Caregiver Essentials Series:
Legal Issues for Caregivers
For Immediate Release -- December 15, 2009
Contact: Tonda Ames, VP of Marketing -- 918-481-7782

Caregivers find themselves playing roles they never imagined when a loved one is sick or disabled. It's normal to feel overwhelmed, frustrated and confused. Join the Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma and Arkansas Chapter for practical help you can use to manage a mountain of new responsibilities.
A major challenge caregivers face is knowing what legal steps to take. It is vital to consult an attorney who specializes in elder law and can help you make a few simple preparations that can make a world of difference later. This workshop will focus on critical legal documents caregivers need to put in place as early as possible. They include Advance Directive, Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care and Do Not Resuscitate forms.
Participants will learn about Oklahoma law pertaining to caregiving, healthcare and end of life, with special emphasis on the issues surrounding nutrition and hydration. We will explore planning for conditions such as Alzheimer's and related dementias, strokes, and MS. Specific highlights will include legal terms to increase understanding of the complex decisions necessary before a person reaches a state of incompetency, revocable living trusts and palliative care issues.
The speaker will be Shirley A. Cox, JD, OKDHS Aging Services Division. Join the Alzheimer's Association on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at either 10 a.m. - noon or 6 - 8 p.m. The session will be held at the Natalie Building, 6475 S. Yale, Tulsa, 4th Floor Conference Room

Admission is free but space is limited. To register contact us at:
