Former
Collinsville softball all-stater Linsey Curtis was recently presented a $1,200
scholarship in memory of Kayla Burchett, a former Collinsville student who excelled
in a number of activities including softball and cheerleading. Curtis,
who helped lead the Lady Cardinals to the state tournament last season, will be
a part of the Rogers State University Hillcats this coming season. She was selected
as the recipient of the Burchett Scholarship because of her involvement in softball
and due to the fact that she will continue that interest in college. Kayla's grandmother, Brenda Smalygo along with Rick Norris, President of the Collinsville Girls' Softball Association, began organizing a yearly softball tournament honoring Kayla. The monies raised at that tournament are used to fund the scholarship. Abby Miller and Emilee Richardson were the recipients of the scholarship last year. |
