Collinsville Rides Again!
Tucker Hopkins

After a long and hot week at the 62nd International Round Up Clubs Cavalcade (World Largest Amateur Rodeo), the Collinsville Round Up Club would like to congratulate members on a job well done. The CVRUC Queen, Miss Shelby Jones made it to the finals placing in the top 5 of 19 contestants. She was awarded horsemanship and Miss Congeniality and has proven once again that Collinsville has some of the top competitors in the area. She is the daughter of Don & Cheryl Jones, sister of 6 year old Mattie Jones and has made her mark in Queen Competitions all over Oklahoma. Among her list of accomplishments are the CRRA Queen Title, Will Rogers Stampede Miss Teen, Miss Tulsa State Fair Round Up Club Queen, and First Runner Up Cavalcade Queen in 2007. Shelby will compete in the Miss Rodeo Oklahoma competition during the first week of August and we wish her the best of luck.

Congratulations also go out to Tucker Hopkins for placing 2nd in the Finals for Junior Flag Racing and 4th in the Pole Bending. He is the son of Jeff and Kristi Hopkins, and has an adorable little sister named Stormy. Tucker will be competing in speed events at the Tulsa State Fair and we know he will do a terrific job.

The Wild Horse Race was a very exciting event at the Cavalcade and we want to give credit to our CVRUC Team; Don Jones (anchor), Brandon Wren (mugger), and Thomas Gott (rider). While they did not place in the top 4 for the finals, they were 6th overall in the standings and took quite a beating to get there. The winner of this event was Tyler Goodman (rider) and his team, also from Collinsville. Tyler also won the Pony Express Race breaking the record with 3 consecutive wins. While he was riding for another club in the Cavalcade this year, we are happy to say that he and his family are members of the CVRUC and we are proud to see him win both events.

Our hats off to all who competed in the Cavalcade this year. We hope to see some of you attending our Playdays, at the Rodeo on August 15 & 16, and entering our Royalty Contest. Entry deadline is August 4, 8pm. We will have a group meeting at the CVRUC Arena beginning at 8pm on the 4th. See our website for applications, schedules and pictures. www.cvruc.org

Expectations Exceeded
John & Barbara Burkel have been touring Collinsville this week exploring the former home of her farther Art Goldsmith. The Goldsmith family left Collinsville many years ago and this was the first visit for Barbara. I told her I would wait for her description of the visit rather than try to describe it 2nd hand, but she was obviously thrilled and said her expectations had been exceeded. -- Ted Wright (7/29/2008)
