Letter from the Mayor
I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! This past month has been a very trying and challenging month for our community. The ice storm that paralyzed our city and left so many citizens without power was an awakening as to how dependent we are on our city to provide the basic services even in times of disaster. Being prepared and making quick decisions helped save lives and restore our community back to some since of normalcy.

I would like to thank all involved that put so many hours into this disaster. Especially to our Electric Department that was on the scene before most of us were aware of our situation. Quick decision making to bring in crews from Pryor, Claremore, Stillwell, Sallisaw, GRDA, and Texas made the difference in getting most citizens back online promptly. Our Water Department made sure before the storm hit that all storage tanks were full of water and had backup generators located and on the way. Fire/EMS personnel were on the scene going to homes checking on citizens and transporting them to the Red Cross Shelter. Police officers were patrolling a blacked out city protecting our property and safety while making public address statements on every street to inform citizens of the Red Cross Shelter. Street, Cemetery and Park Department employees cleared streets of debris. All city employees, including employees from Jenks, Glenpool, and Bartlesville helped in the effort. Correctional employees also assisted. Our City Manager, Emergency Management Director and elected officials were in constant contact making decisions. Thank you Red Cross and the First Baptist Church for helping so many of our citizens.

I am so thankful of those that called upon our community to lend support. Every community around us was affected. The City of Tulsa was hit extremely hard and as bad as it was Mayor Kathy Taylor called me numerous times checking in on our community lending any support she could. Thank you to Congressman John Sullivan for personally bringing FEMA representatives to town. Thank you State Representative Earl Sears for making daily trips assisting us in many ways. Last but not least to the Citizens of Collinsville for their patience and understanding and to the unrecognized citizens and businesses that helped their neighbors and this community when it needed help the most.

The effects of this storm will be long lasting; every department is busy working on repairs to the electrical system and brush removal. We also are trying to keep any delays on our transportation improvements (East gateway, Downtown, and S-Curve) to a minimum.

We want to encourage and thank the recent efforts by citizens organizing a city wide clean up effort on January 12th to help pick up brush at curbside. This volunteer effort to help your neighbors and your city shows what great people we have in our community. Please join us in supporting this effort.

Once again thank you for your continued patience, understanding and support during these difficult times. May God Bless You and Have a Happy New Year.

Respectfully Yours,
Stan A. Sallee
Mayor
