I am Alicia Malsam. I am 19 years old. I live in Collinsville, Oklahoma. I am a dwarf, I am only 4”1. I have Cartilage Hair Hypoplasia. Cartilage Hair Hypoplasia is a very rare form of dwarfism. There are about 40 to 50 known to the United States. The way my dwarfism has affected me is, my hair grows very slowly. My hair is only a little past my shoulders, I have been growing it out for my whole life. Also my hair is very thin. I have arthritis in my knees, which happens to many dwarves at a young age. I also go to a chiropractor for scoliosis. I also have an immunodeficiency that is isolated in my T-cells. Since my type of dwarfism is so rare, I have never met another dwarf with my type of dwarfism. I have talked to a few that will be attending the Little People of America National Convention.

The Little People of America National Convention is a week long, it will be in Detroit, Michigan in June 2008. I have never attended a National Convention, since they are so far away and my parents cannot afford them, since they are paying for my college and my brothers. I have been very active in Little People of America Regionals. The Regionals are when different districts get together. I am in district 7. District 7 is Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas.
I have made many good friends through these regional, but I have not met any dwarves that have the same type of dwarfism that I have. I have been dreaming of going to a National Convention to meet another dwarf with my type of dwarfism. I also want to meet dwarfs that are my age. To hang out with people that are like me is an unexplainable feeling. I feel like I fit in. They also have sports at the National Convention. I have played soccer since I was 9 years old. I have always wanted to play with people that are my height. I have never had the opportunity to do this in my life. The National Convention is a weeklong where little people from all over the world get together. For many of us, this is the only time we feel like we fit in.

There are also many specialists who come to help the little people. I have never gone to a specialist who studies my type of dwarfism. I could ask the specialist all the questions that I been wanting answered for so long. By helping out in any way for this cause you are helping me, meet other dwarves with my type of dwarfism and see a specialist who can actually answer all my questions for the first time. Also I will meet many new little people who will be my friend for the rest of my life. I will feel like there is a place out there where I fit in. This trip will cost around $3,000 dollars for the flight, hotel, food, and preparation in the events. If there were any way that you might be able to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for your time!
