Thank You Collinsville
(Dec. 5) Ted,
I was wondering if you would post a thank you for me. My name is Jarrod Shearer and this wonderful community has pulled together to help me in my time of need. My car and all my belongings were lost in a fire and people have been so wonderful in donating things like clothes, school supplies and other things that I need. I don't know how to thank everyone for being so wonderful. It is a try eye opener to lose everything right before your eyes and then be told that I should be glad that I was still here. I have never been one of those that thought that I was invincible, but this has brought a new meaning to life for me. I love being a part of this community and want to thank everyone that has helped me. We still have some things to replace like the car and a few other things, but I am just thankful to be here with my family and friends. I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

Thank you and God Bless,
Jarrod Shearer (63)

(Nov. 26) Ted, I just wanted to thank everyone that has helped Jarrod (Shearer) in replacing his lost items. We are no where near finished, but I just am overwhelmed by the people that have come forth to assist this young man in his time of need. People have come up with lot of shirts, shoes, some school supplies, a used laptop and some jackets. We are still looking for him a cheap car to get back and forth to school and work, some pants and a coat. NSU was very helpful with the books and assignments that he lost. We as a family are just very thankful that we still have Jarrod with us because according to the OHP and the wrecker service there is no earthly reason for Jarrod to still be here. So on this Thanksgiving I know what I am going to tell everyone that I am VERY Thankful that my son is still with me today. It warms my heart to know that the people of the community that are always telling me what a wonderful young man he is and how much they love him are willing to step up and help him in his time of need.
--Thank you so much to all of you, Carolyn Jensen (11/26/2008)
(Nov. 17) Ted, My son Jarrod Shearer is in need of help. He is a freshman at NSU and comes home on the weekends to do laundry and see his family. Well on his way back to school yesterday (not 30 minutes from campus) his car caught fire and burnt to the ground. Everything that he owns was in that car, all of his clothes, his school books, assignments for the week, lap top that he used for school and of course his only transportation. I have no idea where to start to get him back on track. After seeing the car myself, we are lucky that he is still with us. So if you have any suggestions could you please let me know? You can contact me @ 798-3037 with any ideas. --Thank you, Carolyn Jensen (11/17/2008)
Members of the HRC Club
The Collinsville GFWC Home Representative Club met December 2 at the Community Church for a meeting of business, donations, and frivolity. Members each brought a dish for the Christmas dinner, and enjoyed the holiday decorations, centerpieces, and table favors.

During the business portion of the meeting, groups of members were given Angels from the RCB Bank Christmas tree, and gifts will be purchased and delivered by the deadline for several families. In lieu of exchange gifts, a decision had been made in November for members to make donations to Heifer International - a program that provides livestock to families in need that will supplement their food and/or income. Almost $600 was collected, and with these funds, chairman Anita Mitchell will select animals that will be given to anonymous families in foreign countries to better their quality of life.

Members also donated to Newborns In Need - an Nationwide organization that provides necessities to preemies and newborns - in this case, in the Tulsa/NE OK area hospitals. Hillcrest Hospital alone, sees approximately 250 needy cases a month, and welcomes donations to ease the burden for new parents.

Following the dinner and business meeting, token holiday gifts were exchanged between Secret Sisters, ending with a melodious rendition of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" - an annual tradition with the Club.

Additional members in attendance included Helen Murphy, Jill Oliver, Margaret Waldorf, Susan Babbitt, Susan Pratt, Jeanie Barnes, EvaJo Sheehan, Linda Pfeffer, Marsha Nachtigall, Joyce Baker, Laura Maul, Alberta Bonebrake, Krista Nall, Carolyn Brinkley, Kitty Thomas, Bobbie Loveless, Linda Vickers, and Barbara Colpitt.
