The first spades of dirt were turned today for a complex of forty-one independent living apartment to be built for the elderly or handicap.

Former Tulsa Mayor Robert Lafortune (Chairperson St. John Health System Board of Directors) participated in the Collinsville ground breaking ceremony Thursday morning Aug. 2, 2007.
The tent where the speeches were given today sits between the existing Francis Steitel Assisted Living Center (which was originally Collinsville Memorial Hospital) and the new apartments to be build to the west on the vast campus.
One of the shovels used in the Collinsville ground breaking ceremony today has been used at every St. John related ground breaking since 1920 when General Pershing used it to break ground for the original St. John Hospital.
This 1961 view (east towards 19th Street and the pond) was taken before Collinsville Memorial Hospital was built. That hospital became part of the St. John Health Syatem when purchased in January 1987.
Ground was broken in April 1961 for a new regional hospital in Collinsville just a few yards from the 2007 ground breaking (above) today. The Collinsville Memorial Hospital opened in August 1962.
The former farm land of Ira and Gladys Sallee was the scene of the 1961 and 2007 ground breakings.
