Cardinals
Reach 6-3
With Win In Last Home Game
Seniors Honored For Volleyball, Softball, Band &
Football
Near
Safety -- David
Chester (#82) spun this Tulsa Webster ball carrier back into his own end zone
for what many thought was a safety but the officials marked the ball out near
the 4 yard line with 1:45 remaining in the game and the score 8-6.
Garrett
Thurman (#24) scored his second touchdown on the evening (above) from 15 yards
out with just under a minute remaining in the game. Stephen Gerber's PAT kick
was good for the final 15-8 score. The drive consisted of just two plays from
the Webster 49 with Kevin Phillips (#11) rushing from the 49 to the 15 (below).
Kevin
Phillips (#11) sealed the deal with an interception that he ran into the endzone
(from near the Card 40). A holding penalty on the return brought the ball back
near mid field with just over 31 seconds for the Cards to run out for the win.
Injuries -- Kevin
Phillips playing at all in the second half seemed unlikely when he was injured
on a punt return at 7:32 in the 2nd quarter. Kevin remained on the turf for
a long time and EMS personnel were even called out before he finally managed
to get up and reach the sidelines on his own power. He was later cleared to
play and was back in the game a few plays before half time.
Starting quarterback Lane
Coulter (#7) was not so lucky as he suffered a broken collarbone at some point
in the first offensive series of the game. Coach Craig said after the game
that Lane had played several more downs after the injury before it was relized
he was seriously injured. Cody Kite (#10) guided the Cardinals the remainder
of the game with QBs Coulter and Chronister now both out for the season.
QB
Cody Kite got some sideline words of encouragement from Coach Bob Craig after
the Card's 1st quarter touchdown.
The
band looking sharp in their new uniforms during pre-game.
Five
Cardinal tacklers made sure this Webster run came to a halt in the 1st half.
Brandon
McCoy (#20) brought down this Webster ball carrier for a loss on this 1st half
play.
