Additional Photo Descriptions From Emily -- July 24, 2006
A. This is a Boyd's Dragon, a famous lizard in Queensland rainforests. I was lucky to see him and he was beautiful!
B. I took a class about the Aboriginal culture and one of our field trips took us to see this native, who showed us tools (of course boomerangs), talked about native dress and practices, and did some great dances for us.
C. This is Townsville's team, The Cowboys, after a victory. Rugby is a very cool sport once you figure out the rules - I even got to play some touch "footy" with friends at school.
D. This a shot from Stradbroke Island just off the coast near Brisbane. It was one of my favorite spots in Australia.
E. Aboriginal painting
F. This is at Reef HQ, the aquarium in Townsville. They have a huge reef tank that is open to the sky so the coral and giant clams actually spawn on lunar cycles like those in the wild.
G. My face, after an abrupt meeting with my surfboard during my spring break on the Gold Coast. I luckily didn't get stitches but had an interesting trip to the emergency room. I still have a cool scar if you want to see it!
H. A shot of the riders at "B&B" which is short for bulls and barrels. I felt oddly at home in Townsville…
I. A shot from our "home" on the beach in Byron Bay the week of semester break. I actually pulled a piece of blue surf board from that gash on my chin about a week later…

M. The lava tubes at Undara - this was the closest I got to the outback - about 5 hours in from the coast. The Undara volcano poured lava for 12 months (an entire year!) thousands of years ago and created an awesome system of lava tubes as it ran into the riverbeds and hardened on the top while lava continued to flow underneath throughout the eruption. At the end, the lava flowed out to the end of the rivers, and the tubes were left! It was a great geological adventure and we saw some big gray kangaroos that day too.

O. My friends made these didgeridoos themselves! They carved, blasted and sanded away for about half a day and ended up with some cool souvenirs.
P. ...
Q. That's me with a giant clam! They were awesome creatures - probably my favorite thing about diving in the pacific as we don't have them here or in the Caribbean.
R. ...
S. This was a 10 foot long bull shark! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip.
T. This is (from left) me, Lindsay and Laura, two other friends from Miami diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
U. The S.S. Yongala is a big shipwreck off the coast near Townsville. It's the best dive I've ever been on!
V. These guys are venomous! I'm glad I didn't fiigure this out until after this dive - they were everywhere on the Yongala!
W. Whitsunday sunrise. The Whitsundays are nearly 100 island off the coast of Queensland. It's a sailing capital of Australia.

Y. I took this on the way out to see the lava tubes.
Z. These cave paintings are on an island in the Whitsundays. I also saw some Aboriginal cave paintings are near Townsville that are estimated to be around 4,000 years old. They have different meanings that can be explained by the Aboriginal people from the area.
