I'm always amazed when these hardy little blooms show up in my yard in the dead of winter. I assumed they were early this year with our lack of cold weather (a record warm January) but checking last year found the first bloom was within a few days. -- Ted

Smelter Site Status Update
The EPA posted an updated status in Jan. 2006 relating to the cleanup of the former zinc smelter south of Collinsville. The investigations and studies are about 40% completed to help identify feasible cleanup options for the site.
