How YOU Can Help Victims of Katrina

From the the Collinsville Meadowcreek United Methodist Church (Sept. 7, 2005):

As some of you may know - 50 people have arrived at Cookson Hills in Tahlequah that are survivors from Katrina. After an Emergency Disaster Meeting last night - Lexee has announced that our congregation is adopting Cookson Hills. For the next several months we are making a committment to serve Cookson Hills any way possible. There are several items that are desperately needed during the time the survivors are residing at Cookson:

* cash - for gas for transportation, phones, and utilities
* Travel Trailers-these are needed for 6 months and will alleviate the crowdedness of everyone staying in the dorm area
* security -if anyone can stay 1-2 evenings a week. They do have a trailer for whoever can do this.
* people to prepare and serve a meal on a weekly basis
* twin sheets/pillow cases
* bath towels/wash cloths
* bed pillows
* blankets

* toiletries deodorant
tampons/pads
toothbrushes
toothpaste
bath soap
nail clippers
nail files

* paper goods -cups, plates, plastic silverware, paper towels, toilet paper
* travel bags/back packs (to carry their personal items)
* laundry soap
* dish soap
* bleach

* Perishable Groceries- bacon, eggs, sausage, lunch meats, hamburger, chicken, potatoes, etc-they are looking for "luxury" items for these families to have semi-normal meals instead of the constant peanut butter or bologna sandwiches. They DO NOT NEED MILK. (you can also make a cash donation and we can purchase these items)

These items are needed asap-and we will be adding to the list on an as needed basis. If you will be bringing any perishable items-please call the office before you bring them so we can make sure and have a place to store them.

Please feel free to call Meadowcreek United Methodist Church if you have any questions at 371-3250. We will update our website concerning the needs of Cookson Hills and other areas as the need arises: www.meadowcreekumc.com.
