Built in 1933 With Bricks From 1912 Smelter Hill School

Previous Middle School Building Coverage
Beginning of the End -- The first blow was struck about 9am Tuesday morning (June 7th, 2005) on the southeast corner of the Collinsville Middle School Annex building (formerly the Central Grade School). In less than 2 hours the building was a pile of rubble creating a new view of the existing and new middle school buildings.
Bricks and debris were falling as the heavy machinery mowed down the row of former classrooms.
Last Arch Standing -- This view shows the last portion of wall standing as the wrecking arm hits the doors that entered into the middle of the old building on the north side (near the basement).
The top old photo is an undated photo (likely 1940s or 50s) showing the Central Grade School in its fully glory. The next photo above is my sister Jane Ann and myself (Ted Wright) in our 6th or 7th grade band uniforms (from our front yard) with the old Central High School and Central Grade school in the background. My mother Betty Evans (Wright) graduated from that high school in 1933 and she used to tell me she watched that grade school being built from the H.S. windows. -- Ted 6/7/2005
