Middle School (Past & Present)
The former Central Grade School basement saw daylight for the first time since it was built in 1933 this week as the building over it was torn down. Less remains each day as the building material is hauled off for new parking at the middle school (below on Spring Street).
Progress on the new building (on Center Street) continues with new brick on the north (above) & west (below) sides of the Middle School.
This 1933 photo shows some of the workers building Central Grade School in 1933. Virginia King stopped by this week to identify her father (Lonnie King, 4th from the right) and an uncle (Clifford Kidd 2nd from left), as well as the building architect (Harry Hamilton, 5th from right). Virginia also said her grandfather (O.C. Kidd) was a bricklayer on the City Hall building (built in 1913) and the 2nd high School (in 1912).
The Community Church rebuild project was about ready for a slab pour before two straight early morning rains.

Fire/EMS Furniture

City Hall Front Steel

City Hall Front Window Frame
The front windows and facade of the City Hall building survived the December 2001 fire but later fell on their own in February 2002. The new steel framing being placed today (top 2 photos) will allow the window fixtures and surrounding brick to start taking shape similar to their original 1913-2001 look.
Fire/EMS Furniture In Place
Furniture built and installed by Oklahoma Department of Corrections inmates was in place Thursday as one of the final steps before city personnel begin moving into the new Fire/EMS building.
