With many Collinsville firefighters unavailable due to the funeral procession for volunteer fireman James Fugate (who died Tuesday from injuries from an earlier motor vehicle accident) their backup units here from Tulsa and Limestone responded to a small fire at Darling International about 5:15pm Friday. The fire was quickly controlled and there were no injuries and damage appeared minor. Collinsville's Rural fire department and EMS crews also responded.
This 1945 ad was the only historical photo I could come up with quickly for this important historical Collinsville employeer. 20 was the phone number. -- Ted 1/15
This photo from the 50th Anniversary Issue of the Collinsville News (& Collinsville) in 1949 gives an early day view of the then approximately nine year old enterprise at the same location as the plant shown above. The text on the photo read: "Collinsville Rendering Co. was established in 1940 by M. A. Ross (Pictured in inset above) and is a large user of electric power and water furnished by the City of Collinsville. The company serves farmers and packers over a wide area of Eastern Oklahoma and provides steady employment for forty five men." -- Ted 1/16/2005
