FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Sept. 27, 2005)

COLLINSVILLE TO HOLD PUBLIC FORUM
TO UPDATE THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

The City of Collinsville has announced that a public forum will be held Tuesday October 11, 2005 at 7:00 PM in the Commons at the Collinsville High School at 2400 West Broadway. The forum will be hosted by the Steering Committee to Update the Collinsville Comprehensive Plan and a copy of the agenda may be downloaded from www.cvilleok.com and is also available at the City Hall at 901 W. Center Street. For more information call the City Hall 371-1012.

The current plan was adopted in 1981 and is serious need of being updated according to City Planner Bob Wolfram. Wolfram stated that "the City's population has increased more than 15% since 1980 and has grown almost 5% from 2000 to 2004 according to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce." He noted that growth is taking place all over the City with new housing, commercial and industrial development coming online. He also noted that a public input survey may be completed on line at www.incog.org/collinsville.htm or may be downloaded from www.cvilleok.com and returned to the City Hall. Copies of the survey will also be available at City Hall and at the October 11, 2005 meeting. The survey will be scored electronically by INCOG and the results posted on November 1, 2005 on www.incog.org/transportation/collinsville.htm and www.cvilleok.com.

A part of the public forum will be devoted to updating Collinsville residents on the City's recent and significant projects, such as the Fire Service and Emergency Medial Facilities building that was the first Vision 2025 project to be completed, the new City Hall planned to be completed in November 2005, the revitalization of the Central Business District that is now funded, plans and projects to rebuild the Broadway Bridge in cooperation with Tulsa County and the Cherokee Nation, and East and West Gateway projects on Main Street.

The major portion of the forum will be devoted to brainstorming with those in attendance about goals for the future, issues related to quality of life, utility and service needs, education and schools, residential, commercial and industrial development, and the environment.

Mayor Stan Sallee stated that now is the time for the City and its citizens to take a comprehensive and new look at all types of growth and development, patterns and trends in growth, and the present and future need for City services, homes, churches and schools, retail services, jobs and economic development, and possibly even redevelopment. The Mayor stated that "the growth and development of our City must be planned to assure a high quality of life for our residents and it is important that the City plan for its future with our residents."
