Vision 2025 Funds (Plus Grant Potenial) Earmarked for Collinsville Beautification Projects

This crowd of about 40 involved citizens for the first of two public meetings about Collinsville's streetscapes was described by Keith Franklin as the "largest he had seen" for a similar project.

Bob Wolfram's intro indicated that part of the initial thinking on Vision 2025 for was for communities to "jump start visually" the process of beautification and development. Keith Franklin presented a baseline (current day ) view of Collinsville's downtown via slides. Keith then showed a variety of streetscape changes made by other Oklahoma (& Arkansas) communities as example of previous successes helped along by Landplan Consultants, Inc.

The concept drawing above was Keith's initial offering for comments of citizen feedback. The feedback was positive and will allow Landplan to make an initial October 1st deadline for ODOT grant application intent with a preliminary concept and funding amount for a 3-block long section of Main Street from 12th to 10th streets. The detailed grant application will be required before Jan. 3rd and will follow a second public meeting. A best case scenario of grant approval, design, bids, contracts, weather, etc., would leave spring 2006 as the likely start of construction.

The detailed plan would likely include replacing sidewalks, light poles, and overhead wiring and add corner cutouts, handicap ramps, benches, plants, trees and an irrigation system. The initial focus (and potential funding) is on this 3 block long section along State Highway 20. Future plans will cover from 14th to 7th on Main. -- Ted

Keith Franklin of Landplan Consultants Inc. has been hired by the city to create the design and coordinate the project of beautification of Collinsville's Downtown with the allocated Vision 2025 funds.
