FRIENDS OF THE COLLINSVILLE LIBRARY HOST CHILI & CHOCOLATE COOK-OFF CONTESTS

It's time for the Annual Chili Cook-Off at the Collinsville Library! This year the Friends of the Collinsville Library have added a Chocolate Cook-Off for even more tasty fun!

Judging will begin at noon on Saturday, September 11th at the Collinsville Library (1223 W. Main, Collinsville, OK). Judges decisions are considered final.

The first prize in each cook-off is $40 cash & a blue ribbon (and bragging rights). The second prize in each cook-off is $20 cash & a red ribbon.

Contestants may enter as many dishes as they would like. Registration fees are $7 per entry. Contestants who register by Friday, September 10th will pay the discounted Early Bird Registration fee of $5 per entry. Copies of the entry forms and contest rules are available at the Collinsville Library.

As always, samples of entries will be available for everyone to try after the judging is completed. Guests will be able to purchase either a chili or chocolate tasting kit for a suggested donation of $3 each or both kits for $5. All proceeds from this event go to the Friends of the Collinsville library and are used to fund events and provide for special needs at our local library branch.

Rules for Chili Cook-Off

Please prepare your chili at home and bring it to the Collinsville Library Meeting Room (1223 Main Street, Collinsville, OK) between 11:15 AM and 11:45 AM on Saturday, September 11th.

Chili must be in a Crock-Pot with a lid and must have it's own serving ladle or spoon. Please note: FOCL will hand out samples of the remaining chili to guests after the judging is complete.

If you have pre-registered, please give the Registration Clerk your name to receive your contestant packet. If you haven't pre-registered, you will be asked to fill out a registration form and return it, along with your payment, to the Registration Clerk where you will then receive your contestant packet.

The contestant packet will explain the judge's point system and what they will be looking for while judging your chili. The packet will contain a label with your entry number on it to place on your Crock-Pot.

Just before noon, you will be asked to go into the meeting room and dip 1/4 cup portions of your chili into each of the Styrofoam cups marked with your entry number (These will accompany your Contestant packet.) Please take your entry cups to the designated table.

Judges will arrive only after every entry has been dipped and contestants have left the meeting room. Judging will start no later than 12:15 PM.

Optional: If your recipe is not a secret, you may wish to bring copies of it to share with visitors.

Rules for Chocolate Cook-Off

Please prepare your entries(s) at home and bring to the Collinsville Library Meeting Room (1223 Main Street, Collinsville, OK) between 11:15 AM and 11:45 AM on Saturday, September 11th.

1. You must bring a full batch/recipe of each entry. (Please note: FOCL will hand out samples of the remaining entries to guests after the judging is complete.)

2. You must bring a printed copy of your recipe for the judges to view. (If your recipe is not secret, you may wish to bring extra copies to share with guests.)

3. Each entry must contain some form of white, semi-sweet, milk or dark chocolate, or cocoa.

4. You must bring a serving utensil for each entry.

If you have pre-registered, please give the Registration Clerk your name to receive your contestant packet. If you haven't pre-registered, you will be asked to fill out a registration form and return it, along with your payment, to the Registration Clerk where you will then receive your contestant packet.

The contestant packet will explain the judge's point system and what they will be looking for while judging your entry. (Hint: Appearance will count towards the point total.) The packet will contain a place card with your entry number on it. Please write the title of your recipe on the card and place it along with your serving utensil directly in front of your entry on the judging tables.

Additional activities are still being planned for this event. We can tell you that there definitely will be temporary tattoos & piñata plunder for the kids to enjoy! We may even have another big book sale!
